William “Bill” Brown is chief executive officer of 3M, a $25 billion materials science and manufacturing company that innovates and delivers solutions for global challenges. He is the former Chair of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of L3Harris Technologies, a global innovator in aerospace and defense technology solutions, where he served as chief executive officer and chair, and then executive chair from June 2019 to June 2022. Brown previously served as chair, president, and chief executive officer of Harris Corporation prior to its merger with L3 Technologies in 2019. He joined Harris Corporation in November 2011 as president and chief executive officer. Prior to Harris Corporation, Brown spent 14 years at United Technologies Corporation (UTC) serving in a variety of leadership roles.
Brown holds bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering from Villanova University, as well as an MBA from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He is the former Chair of the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) Board of Governors and formerly a member of AIA's Executive Committee.
John Banovetz
Executive Vice President, Chief Technology Officer and Environmental Responsibility
As executive vice president, chief technology officer and environmental responsibility, Dr. John Banovetz leads more than 7,000 scientists who connect 3M’s 51 technology platforms to solve the real-world needs of customers around the world. He is responsible for research and development, including an expanded focus on emerging growth venture investments. John also oversees 3M’s environmental responsibility efforts, with a focus on advancing the company’s environmental stewardship and commitments. In this role, he leverages his many years of experience as both a technology and business leader.
John came to 3M in 1995 as a research chemist in the Corporate R&D organization, working primarily on acrylic adhesives and tapes. In 2003, he joined McKinsey & Company, and in 2007 rejoined 3M and assumed responsibility for the overall planning and implementation of corporate strategic initiatives. He served in that role until 2012, when he became global business director for 3M’s Industrial Adhesives and Tapes Division. Three years later, he was tapped to lead 3M’s Corporate Research Lab.
In 2016, John moved to West Europe to serve as managing director of 3M’s D-A-CH region, which represents the company’s combined operations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. He was appointed 3M’s chief technology officer and senior vice president of research and development in 2017, with environmental responsibility added to his role a few years later.
In his current position, John remains focused on driving change, challenging the status quo and helping develop the 3M leaders of tomorrow. “Leadership is about serving more than yourself,” he says. “It’s about creating an environment that unlocks the full potential of teams and individuals and, as a result, achieves even higher performance and more engaged employees.”
John has a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry from Stanford University, and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Hamline University. In addition to his role at 3M, he is on the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST), the Board of Trustees at the Science Museum of Minnesota and is an emeritus trustee for Hamline University. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three kids, as well as a variety of outdoor activities including hiking, biking and fishing.
Karina Chavez
Group President, Consumer
Karina Chavez leads 3M’s Consumer Business Group, home to some of the company’s most iconic brands. This business empowers global consumers and includes construction and home improvement, stationery and office supplies, home and auto care, and consumer health care.
Throughout her life and career, Karina has lived and worked around the world, with extensive experience leading strategy and operations at 3M. She joined the company in 2008 as a marketing and public affairs manager for 3M Mexico and held roles of increasing responsibility in the United States, Asia and Latin America. Karina led international strategic planning and served as managing director for 3M Indonesia. In 2017 she was named global business director for 3M’s home improvement business, until 2020 when she became senior vice president for customer operations. In November 2021, Karina assumed the role of senior vice president and chief strategy officer, responsible for strategy, brand, design, sponsorships and events, and communications. She became group president of 3M’s Consumer Business Group in April 2023. Prior to 3M, she served as a business leader and consultant for various companies in Mexico and Europe.
Throughout her career, Karina has embraced change as a certainty, and thinks of John F. Kennedy’s famous words on change often: “Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.”
She earned a B.A. in economics from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de Mexico, a Master’s in economics for development from Oxford University in the United Kingdom, and an MBA from Université Libre de Bruxelles in Belgium.
Outside of work, Karina is an experience seeker, avid traveler and food lover who enjoys dancing and yoga. She has been married more than 20 years and has two teenage kids.
Torie Clarke
Executive Vice President, Chief Public Affairs Officer
Torie Clarke joined 3M in December 2023 as executive vice president and chief Public Affairs officer, collectively leading the Government Affairs, Brand and Communications, Design, Sponsorships, Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability teams.
Prior to 3M, Torie served as the head of Global Corporate Affairs at SAP and the Senior Advisor for Communications and Government Relations at Comcast Corporation, as well as working as an independent communications and crisis management consultant. With extensive government affairs experience, Torie also previously worked as chief spokesperson for the Pentagon on 9/11 and the beginning of the Iraq war, the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs, and as a presidential re-election campaign Press Secretary. She has unique expertise and depth of experience in both the public and private sectors, and is the author of Lipstick on a Pig: Winning In the No-Spin Era by Someone Who Knows the Game and A Survivor’s Guide to Washington.
“Good leadership means clearly communicating mission and intent. Ensure everyone you work with knows what you are trying to accomplish and how you are going to do it,” Torie says. “My leadership philosophy is centered on developing cohesive strategies based on multiple inputs, and ensuring the team is properly resourced, supported and encouraged.”
Outside of work, Torie enjoys traveling with her family, training and riding horses, and reading. She also serves on the board of The Rumsfeld Foundation and is a Senior Advisory Committee Member for the Institute of Politics at Harvard Kennedy School. Torie holds a bachelor’s degree from George Washington University and is finishing her master’s degree in Social Work from the Catholic University of America.
Zoe Dickson
Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer
As executive vice president and chief human resources officer, Zoe Dickson leads 3M’s transformative agenda for people and culture. Every day her team is focused on attracting, supporting, and developing talent, and ensuring 3M is a place where everyone belongs, learns, innovates and thrives.
Zoe joined 3M in 1998, and has held roles of increasing responsibility in human resources across the company’s businesses and geographic areas. Prior to her current role, she served as senior vice president of Talent, Learning and Insights. Zoe has been the architect of 3M’s talent and organization effectiveness strategies, and a passionate advocate for embedding diversity, equity and inclusion across the company. She has lived and worked around the world for 3M, including in Asia Pacific, Europe and the United States.

Zoe is a chartered member of Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development. She is married with two teenage children, and enjoys hiking, baking, and exploring the world with her family.
Peter Gibbons
Group President, Enterprise Supply Chain
Peter Gibbons joined 3M in November 2021 as group president of Enterprise Supply Chain, which brings together manufacturing and supply chain, and is focused on optimizing the customer experience through end-to-end aligned and agile operations.
Prior to 3M, Peter served as chief executive officer of TireHub, a joint venture last mile distributor between Bridgestone and Goodyear. Possessing a wealth of experience in manufacturing and supply chain operations, Peter previously held senior-level executive positions at Mattel, Starbucks and ICI Paints North America. His growth mindset, inclusive leadership, and orientation toward developing talent and culture has helped him lead highly successful complex changes and significant transformation.

Chris Goralski
Group President, Safety & Industrial
Chris Goralski is group president of 3M’s Safety and Industrial Business Group, which includes personal safety, adhesives and tapes, abrasives, industrial specialties, electrical markets, automotive aftermarket, and roofing granules. He leads a team that collaborates with customers to transform how work gets done around the world.
Chris has deep experience at 3M advancing industrial businesses, leading in environmental stewardship and executing business transformation. He most recently led the company’s Industrial Adhesives and Tapes business, responsible for setting strategy and driving growth in one of 3M’s largest global businesses. Chris previously served as vice president of environmental stewardship, helping develop 3M’s strategies and commitments. Prior to that, he was vice president of ERP deployment, where he led the implementation of new digital technologies across the enterprise. Chris also served as director of corporate strategy.
“3M’s success hinges on our ability to collaborate – both internally and with our customers – to gain new insights into how our solutions and technologies can help solve tough challenges and transform markets,” Goralski said. “For me, leadership means listening to and learning from the people around me, so we can continue to unlock those opportunities that only come through working together.”
He began his 3M career in 2005 in strategic business development. Before 3M, Chris held research, product development and leadership positions at Syngas Technology, LLC, The Ford Motor Company, and The Dow Chemical Company.
Chris holds a BSE degree in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan, as well as a PhD in chemical engineering and an MBA with an emphasis in strategic management from the University of Minnesota. In his time away from work, Chris enjoys spending time outside, boating, cycling, and golfing with his wife Katie and his two teenage sons.
Mark Murphy
Executive Vice President, Chief Information and Digital Officer
Mark Murphy has more than two decades of experience developing and leading global technology organizations across multiple industries including healthcare, medical device, retail and financial services.
He joined 3M in October 2021 as executive vice president and chief information & digital officer, helping lead the digital transformation of the $32 billion science-based company. Prior to 3M, Mark served as Chief Information Officer for Abbott Laboratories where he had global responsibilities for Abbott’s technology landscape. He previously worked at St. Jude Medical for more than 15 years, holding multiple technology roles of increasing responsibility. Throughout his career he has led large technology transformations including SAP implementations, digital initiatives and cybersecurity.
“Leadership is about connecting with and inspiring others to achieve their best,” Mark says. “Leaders serve by creating an inclusive environment which values diverse perspectives, teamwork and innovation. I believe great leaders are great listeners who carry themselves with humility, authenticity, accessibility, transparency and integrity.”
Mark holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University, and an M.B.A. from Indiana University. Outside of work he enjoys reading, following college sports and spending time with his family.
Monish Patolawala
President and Chief Financial Officer
With more than 25 years of extensive experience leading the financial operations of industrial and healthcare businesses, Monish Patolawala, 3M’s president and chief financial officer, understands what it takes to drive profitable growth in an ever-changing environment.
“To effectively drive growth, it is important to keep the customer at the center of everything we do. It begins with actively listening and then relentlessly working to deliver outcomes to solve customer problems,” says Monish.
Monish joined 3M as senior vice president and chief financial officer in July 2020 and was drawn to the company for its history of innovation, ethics and global reach.
“3M is not only a world leader in innovation but was built on a foundation of strong ethics, customer centricity, a global mindset and a deep and diverse team,” says Monish.
Since joining the company, Monish’s role has expanded beyond Finance to include leading information technology, enterprise strategy, 3M’s global service centers, country prioritization and governance, and project management of both the planned spin off of its health care business and execution of the continued transformation of 3M.
Prior to 3M, Monish spent 26 years at GE, where he held a variety of roles of increasing responsibility across GE’s businesses. As vice president of operational transformation, he led the company’s transformation initiatives driving operating rigor and lean management across the company. Most recently, he served as CFO of GE Healthcare. Prior to GE, Monish gained experience at A.F. Ferguson & Co, a former KPMG affiliate. Monish is a certified chartered accountant and a certified cost accountant from the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India. He earned a bachelor’s degree from St. Joseph’s College of Commerce in Bangalore, India. He serves on the board of Biogen, a leading global biotechnology company.
Outside of work, Monish enjoys reading, music, watching cricket, playing tennis or badminton, and spending time with his family.
Kevin Rhodes
Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Affairs Officer

Kevin Rhodes is Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Affairs Officer, overseeing legal, compliance, government affairs and global security matters for 3M. He leads a global Legal Affairs team that helps guide business opportunities, address enterprise risks, protect intellectual property, shape the development of law and policy, and strengthen compliance and security.
Throughout his 20-year 3M career, Kevin has led legal teams in areas of increasing responsibility. He most recently was Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, advising senior management and the Board of Directors on legal issues. In this role, Kevin led ongoing efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic to combat fraud, counterfeiting, and price gouging of N95 respirators. He previously led the company’s litigation function, and served for more than ten years as chief intellectual property counsel, with responsibility for managing the global intellectual property assets of 3M and its worldwide affiliates.
Kevin is a registered patent attorney and has served as President of the Intellectual Property Owner’s Association and the Association of Corporate Patent Counsel, as well as Chair of the Steering Committee of the Coalition for 21st Century Patent Reform. In 2018, he was inducted into the Intellectual Property Hall of Fame by the IP Hall of Fame Academy. Kevin is a champion for diversity and inclusion in the legal profession, growing talent and serving communities.
Prior to joining 3M in 2001, Kevin was a partner at Kirkland & Ellis in Chicago. He received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Northwestern University; and his B.A. from Grinnell College.
Kevin and his wife Melinda have three adult children. In his free time, Kevin enjoys travel, outdoor activities including fishing, hiking and gardening, and spending time with his family.
Michael F. Roman
Executive Chairman
Mike Roman is executive chairman of 3M’s Board of Directors. Mike became chairman of the board in May 2019.
He served as chief executive officer of 3M, a science and manufacturing company that improves lives around the world, from 2018 to 2024. He previously served as 3M’s chief operating officer, led 3M’s largest business group and was chief strategist. Throughout Mike’s career, he lived and led businesses around the world, including the United States, Europe and Asia. He joined 3M in 1988 as a senior design engineer.
Mike holds a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota. He serves on the board of Abbott Laboratories and on the University of Minnesota Foundation Board of Trustees.
